Radio Operator Course

Communications and phraseology for flying in controlled airspace.

With the approval of the decree on December 15, 2017, pilots of unmanned aircraft who need to operate in restricted air zones will need to obtain a radio operator’s accreditation.

In our official Radio Operator Course, you will obtain the necessary theoretical knowledge to be able to communicate correctly with the corresponding aeronautical unit. In addition, you will have listening sessions and aeronautical conversation practice.

Having the Official Drone Pilot License, both the training as a Radio Operator and as a Drone Operator become especially interesting if you are going to dedicate yourself professionally to this sector.

The goal of these Radio Operator Course is for all students to understand the messages from the stations and the control towers, and that they can use the communications in case of emergencies, emergencies or rescues, all with the corresponding signal in a defined air space since each of them has different techniques and methodologies.

It is critical to note that the State Agency for Air Safety (AESA) has made the development of all the teaching contents that are given in these pieces of training, each of them of vital importance and indispensable since they allow the certificate to be obtained effectively.

When a drone pilot is registered to a Radio Operator Course, it will have in its content the basic principles of communications and radiotelephony. One of the concepts that are handled professionally is the radio waves; these are the first signals since it allows effective communication between the pilot and the control tower.

In addition to the definition, all the elements that make up a radio wave will also be explained carefully. From its particular characteristics, the types in which it is classified, how they are distributed through space and, of course, the phenomena that affect the waves and their propagation.

RADIO OPERATOR COURSE DURATION

In this case, our Radio Operator Course is divided into two segments. They are entirely dictated by an ATO institution and are divided into a theoretical and practical phase, both with at least 10 hours distributed equally in 2 days. It is essential to be present in these courses, allowing aircraft pilots to obtain the required training.

The results of the Radio Operator Course for the pilots are effective. Each one of them awarded through teaching in person in the classrooms of our ATO in 100% and dictated by professionals and all this following the AESA training criteria.

What will you learn in the radio operator course?

The incorporation of all this theory, makes the aircraft pilot know and internalise the operation of basic radio and can use them properly when making contact with a control tower or any other station that is in a controlled air area. This fact is one of the most important in the classification, so it must be taken seriously.

On the other hand, the students will know all about the frequency bands and their main characteristics. It is noteworthy that these are of different elements and factors. These drone controllers must know about them and recognise them, achieving effective communication.

All about the wave types

Likewise, drone pilots are informed about wave types. There are terrestrial, radio and celestial waves, each one of them with particularities and characteristics, that make the navigation of the drones useful, and that they can properly apply the radio, fulfilling the requirements that the controlled air area requires at a specific time.

Components of a radio transmission

One of the most critical characteristics of radiophony applied to drone operators, apart from the types of waves and their definitions, is that it is of great importance concerning the components of a radio transmission. Knowing the structure of this action makes it possible to start sending messages and signals from long distances, facilitating the use of the drone.

With all these theoretical foundations, any pilot would be excited to learn! It is time to start and apply what you have learned in the sky.
